Millevin Avignon 17 November
Award winning wine writer Jamie Ivey (Gourmand Award – 2006 Best book of the year on French wine) will conduct a tasting of Provencal rosés. 88% of wine produced in Provence is now rosé, with vineyards placing more and more emphasis on quality. Gastronomic rosés matured in oak, like fine whites are more and more common. Pale rosés d’une nuit, are also ever more popular, with vignerons staying up all night to monitor the colour of the developing wine.
Jamie will lead a tasting of the different types of rosé available on the market.
- The story of the world rosé revolution from Mateus (fizzy Portuguese pink popular in 1970s) to Miraval (uber cool luxury pink produced by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie)
- How rosé is made.
- How to taste rosé.
- How to choose your holiday rosé.
- The best food combinations for rosé.
“On a recent trip to Provence that I organized for members of our wine club, Jamie worked directly with me in helping to arrange a number of wine tastings for our group. To a person, we loved the locations he selected. We would not have had the rich experience we had without his help, his knowledge of the region, and his contacts on the ground. Jamie also came to our villa one night to give a presentation on the wines of Provence. Not only did he enrich our knowledge of the wines of Provence, but his humor and demeanor made this a highlight of our trip. All of our members had a wonderful experience in Provence and Jamie was a big reason why!”

“We just had the most magical day with Jamie in Lourmarin. Starting with a coffee and a chat, we heard the insiders secrets of the markets which was both interesting and humorous. We then strolled through the markets seeing things in a totally different way and it really made sense then. We had a colourful visit to the Chateau Lourmarin who’s history was totally fantastic mesmerizing followed by the most magical rose tasting in the sunshine on the Chateau terrace learning all about the Rose of Provence & France. Jamie is well informed ( due to his books on the subjects ) and delivers his knowledge through the most humorous of ways. It was an excellent day, truly captivating Provence life and everyone is raving about it. Thank you Provence Guru for a day to remember.” Adi
