Quick Bites – La Fromagerie, Aix en Provence restaurant
Where?
Top of the Cours Mirabeau, just after Les Deux Garcon, turn left into narrow pedestrian alleyway next to cash machine. Go through the cheese shop and up the stairs to the restaurant and terrace.
What’s on offer?
Well cheese, of course, each different cheese selection is available with a suggested glass of wine. And if you are more peckish then, mains like Entrecote Frites and fresh fish of the day, are made with quality ingredients.
Why go?
The cheese of course, but also for a business that prides itself on sourcing quality ingredients. On the day we visited the Entrecote was served with cepe, fresh from the forest that morning.
Who goes?
It’s not for people watching. The terrace is on the third floor and the only thing that passes is the odd pigeon. Clientele is locals in the know, who want good food at a competitive price.
We ate?
Entrecote and the Fish of the Day. Both were delicious, the steak was well hung and full flavoured, the fish freshly caught that morning. And as for the cheese afterwards – divine.
Wine
Excellent selection of by the glass wines, in three different serving sizes. Whites by the glass included excellent local whites like Chateau LaCoste and also from further afield, including a Premier Cru Chablis.
The verdict
Good choice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city streets.
