St Tropez:
Okay, so you’re not Portside, and you’re not on Pamplonne plage, but if you stay at the somewhat anachronistically named Bastide Du Port, you will avoid the curse of the Tropezian traffic. A short walk from the centre ,and just 200m of traffic away from to the left turn that takes you to the open road and the Pamplonne beach clubs, the Bastide offers the best of both worlds. There is even a small plage opposite. Great value too, well for St Trop!
Juan Les Pins
Hemmingway famously stayed just up the road at the Belles Rives, a glorious palace of Riviera excess, with prices to match the sea views.
The Juan Beach Hotel shares the same location just off La Pinede square where the jazz festival is held, but not the decor or the wallet busting rates (rooms from 200 euros a night in high season)
The rooms are as functional and neat as the no-nonsense white facarde, the staff friendly and the nautical-themed bar welcoming.
There’s a pool and the beach clubs and bars of the resort that never sleeps are just a minute’s walk away.
Our advice spend the euros saved on the room lunching on the beach.
